Robert J. Flores, M.D., CCER Medical Director
Roberto J. Flores, M.D. serves as Medical Director of Clear Choice ER, Laredo’s newest free-standing emergency room. Flores, board certified in Emergency Medicine, is a life-long Laredoan who obtained his BA in biology with a minor in chemistry from Texas A&M International University. Having graduated summa cum laude, Flores then moved to Dallas to pursue a medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical Center, subsequently completing an Emergency Medicine residency at Southern Illinois University Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Upon completing his residency, Dr. Flores moved back to Texas and worked as an emergency physician at Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville. Fulfilling his goal of providing care in his hometown, Dr. Flores moved back to Laredo, accepting a position in the emergency department at a local acute hospital. Two years later, Dr. Flores was tapped to lead the physician team at Clear Choice ER.
Dr. Flores is licensed with the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and certified with the Advanced Trauma Life Support, the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and the Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Furthermore, he is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine.
When not documenting emergency treatment results for publication, Dr. Flores takes time to speak with local students on the importance of pursuing a college and post-college degree. Furthermore, Dr. Flores has enjoyed mentoring medical students as they have taken the opportunity to shadow and learn from him in his capacity as Emergency Room physician.
Horacio A. Diaz, M.D.
Clear Choice ER is proud to announce the addition of Horacio A. Diaz, MD, to its critical care team at Laredo’s newest freestanding emergency room. Dr. Diaz, board certified in Family Medicine, has practiced medicine in Laredo for almost three decades, and brings with him a wealth of experience in treating a multitude of emergency conditions.
Dr. Diaz received his B.S. from the Universidad de Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Setting his sights on fulfilling his life-long goal of becoming a physician, Dr. Diaz then attended the Universidad Mexico Americana del Norte, Reynosa, Tamaulipas. He received further training at Clinica Hospital ISSSTE in Reynosa, Mexico, and completed a Family Medicine residency at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio.
Upon completing his medical training, Dr. Diaz returned to Laredo to practice Emergency Medicine at the former Mercy Hospital. He also practiced Family Medicine and Obstetrics with Laredo Medical Group, the Maternity Center of Laredo, and the South Laredo Family Clinic. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Diaz returned to his true calling of treating emergent patients saying he simply enjoys working with those who find themselves in critical conditions and needing immediate care.
Over the course of the next 10 years, Dr. Diaz worked in several Emergency Rooms throughout South Texas gaining additional and valuable skills he now brings to Clear Choice ER. He has earned the respect of his colleagues and patients with his attentive bed-side manners, and methodical diagnosis of conditions and skillful recommendations for treatment.
Dr. Diaz is licensed with the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and holds certifications from the American Board of Family Medicine, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor of Family Medicine/Internal Medicine with the University of Incarnate Word Residency program, and over the past 20 years has served in many leadership roles at Laredo’s two acute hospitals.
Dr. Diaz is currently a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and the Webb County Medical Society. He enjoys spending time documenting medical findings for publications and presentations, while finding additional time to head outdoors with his wife Ariadne and their three children.
Khalid A. Ghazy, M.D., DABFM
Khalid Aziz Ghazy, M.D., DABFM, recently joined the critical care team at Laredo’s newest freestanding emergency room, Clear Choice ER (CCER). Dr. Ghazy, Board Certified in Family Medicine, also earned credentials as a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine.
Dr. Ghazy received his Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Sciences M.B.Ch.B. from the University of Basrah, College of Medicine. He then completed a Family Medicine residency at the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine, Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. In his quest to become proficient in critical care, Dr. Ghazy received certification in ATLS (Advance Trauma Life Support) and completed the Fundamental Critical Care Support Provider Course, Society of Critical Care Medicine. Today, Dr. Ghazy continues his medical training as a student in the Professional Master of Public Health Degree Program, UC Berkeley School of Public Health.
Dr. Ghazy brings to CCER a wealth of experience working in critical care environments. He has been employed as an ER physician with Schumacher Clinical Partners for a number of years working in several ER facilities throughout South Texas, as well as gaining experience in an acute setting while working as a hospitalist in the Laredo and Bryan, Texas areas.
When not working, Dr. Ghazy finds the time to publish research looking into wide-spread chronic illnesses. His most recent published studies include the ‘Evaluation and Management of Patient with difficult to control or resistant Hypertension’; while ‘Pattern of Management of Hepatitis C in a Family Medicine Residency Clinic’ was published by the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG).
Dr. Ghazy is currently a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Medicine and the Texas Medical Association.
Jaime A. Piñero, M.D.
Clear Choice ER is proud to announce the addition of Jaime A. Piñero, M.D. to its critical care team at Laredo’s newest freestanding emergency room. Dr. Piñero, board certified in Family Medicine, brings with him a wealth of experience in treating a multitude of emergency conditions.
Dr. Piñero received his B.S. from the InterAmerican University of PR in San German, PR (Puerto Rico). He then earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine, in Portsmouth, Dominica WI, and then completed his Residency in Family Medicine from Loyola-Cook County-Provident Hospital. Immediately thereafter, Dr. Piñero was selected to attend the Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program in Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. It was here that he perfected his excellent and precise emergency care skills.
Until recently, Dr. Piñero oversaw patient care in the ER at a local hospital-based emergency room. Prior to that, he was a full-time Attending Physician serving in multiple medical facilities. But his love for emergency care lead him to Laredo, and in 2014, he landed a position at a local hospital where he was able to fully work as an ER physician.
Dr. Piñero is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas, and holds numerous certifications, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS). Currently, he is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Proficient in both English and Spanish, Dr. Piñero has a strong interest in researching community-based practices and emergency medicine. He has also taught undergraduate biology courses, including genetics, physiology, virology, anatomy, pharmacology, pathology and immunology. His clinical medicine teachings include Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
In his spare time, Dr. Piñero says he is most content when he plays the piano and guitar. He also writing, reading, exercising and traveling.
